Moving Week & What’s Happening

Monday, May 7th, 2012

It hasn’t been long but I’ve missed you guys! I guess blogging has finally become a serious habit because I feel…off. I haven’t written much lately since we are moving this week. Thursday morning at 4:00 a.m. my family and I will embark upon our longest road trip yet. Ten hours together in our SUV as we head from Ithaca, New York to Indianapolis, Indiana. We are all very excited.

The kids are used to long trips in the car and my husband and I hope that our super early departure will ensure that the kids stay asleep for at least half the trip. Cross your fingers for us and feel free to leave your road trip tricks in the comments below.

I’m documenting our trip for my blog, a super awesome photography project I’ll share later this month, and some cute travel journals I am starting for the kids. I’ll try to pop in here and there to check in but have some great guest posts lined up for this week.

There are a ton of things I want to share with you but since I *know* Cameron will be up soon I’ll be brief.

Time for some blog-cleaning and mind clearing:

  • Sign up for my monthly newsletter. I promise it will be awesome. I am working on a free e-book for subscribers (hint: it’s photography related and addresses many of the questions I receive from friend and readers). I hope to send the first newsletter in June and am working hard to make it sparkle. Just for you.
  • I bought some film for my Polaroid camera. The first two shots were overexposed since I didn’t shield them from the sunlight quickly enough. I was unable to take any more pictures. I have no idea what’s wrong and haven’t had the time to investigate. I really hope I am able to figure it out because the film and filter weren’t cheap but more importantly I was super excited. Grr.
  • We had another playdate with my photographer friend Amanda. It was a vintage theme stylized shoot and it was awesome. Preston loves Amanda’s son and wanted to say goodbye before our summer trip to Indiana. It was a great day.
  • I am back in the swing of things with my ice cream maker! I love that thing. Do you have one? Any favorite recipes?
  • My first photography session went well. My client was a classmate of my husband’s and his wife They bid on a session with me during the school’s annual auction. It was super flattering and I couldn’t wait to work with them. Our shoot took place ay Buttermilk Falls during the golden hour on Saturday. I learned a ton and will definitely have more to share.
  • My e-course obsession continues. Obviously I’m a filthy, awful liar who can’t keep promises to herself but whatever, at least I’m learning and not out spray painting buildings during my free time. Right? RIGHT!
  • I drank too much coffee today. Can you tell?
  • OH, we toured my husband’s professor’s vineyard on Sunday and WOW it was gorgeous. We sipped on a few wines, enjoyed lunch at the professor’s home, drove around the lake, and had crazy amounts of fun.
  • Thanks for all the comments and emails. I hope to get caught up during the car ride on Thursday. You guys are awesome xo

Happy Monday.

Can't nobody hold me down..Oh no I got to keep on movin.

Is this stuck in your head now? Oh, good that means you’re old like me.

This is one of those songs that stuck with me. I remember where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard it. Total game changer. The song they sampled is a classic too. All around winner. Golden oldies and such.

Anyhoo. HI!

I really miss blogging and checking in with you guys. I succumbed to a random plague that was going around graduate housing. I’m sure I caught it when a set of *adorable* twins coughed in my face a few weeks ago. No one enjoys being sick but I had never experienced the torture of being alone and sick with two sick toddlers for a week with no break. It was not a good time but it could always be worse and I am thankful that it has passed. Also, I am hopeful that I won’t catch another horrible cold this year. I can’t! This was my third severe cold in less than two months. Ugh, fingers crossed.

I have a ton of great news, pictures, and updates to share this week. I am slowly catching up. My mother and sister drove six hours to Ithaca, NY for an impromptu visit and I had a fantastic time. Actually I had too much fun during a date night with my husband. Apparently two glasses of wine and a beer over a span of four hours and thousands of calories is too much for my lame self to handle. I got sick. Use your imagination : ) My mother and sister found it pretty amusing and we spent Sunday kicking it at brunch with a fellow MBA wife and then plopped on the couch snuggling the kids for the rest of the day.

OH! And I broke one pair of glasses and lost another so if you notice anything awry with my internet musings or pictures there is my excuse. I cannot see a thing and need to figure out where to squeeze an eye doctor visit in. Boourns.

Here is a piece I wrote for BabyGizmo about using Pinterest for meal planning. Check it out, follow me, and let me see what awesome menu ideas you have up your sleeve.

Anyway, I hope everything is well with you guys. If you have today off I hope the sun is shining and you are enjoying your break. If you don’t I suggest you go hide in the bathroom and take a personal coffee break.

Breaking news: My husband *just* informed me that he was accepted into London School of Economics study abroad program. So we are London bound in about ten months. I am so excited that I cannot even stand the wait. LONDON!

Have a great day and take that, take that.

Selfie Fail

Monday, February 6th, 2012

I keep hearing how important it is to get in front of the camera. They say “Your kids and grandkids will cherish these memories!” “Just do it!”, they blog. Well, I finally heeded the advice and attempted a self portrait.

Mega fail.

There was a crazy mishap involving my tripod, remote, and a spilled iced hot chocolate in the vicinity of my camera, MacBook Pro, and iPhone. Close call and very scary. I don’t know how all the bloggy chicas with kids do it but I lack the dexterity and space to get dolled up, set up the camera, and pose in a flattering manner.

Maybe some day I’ll have the time but for now I have to move fast. A one and two year old are like moths to a flame when they see a camera on a tripod. They’re all over it.

Here they are. Laughing is totally allowed : )

I saw my fuzzy face & then I remembered to manually focus.

Far from perfect but it's a start!

Monday Mantra

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Cmoney is sleeping (fighting sleep) on my lap so I am using the quiet time to upload some of my Project 366 & 52 pictures. I found this one. Very fitting for a Monday.

If you are looking at my Flickr stream shaking your head – don’t judge me. Camera time has been rare lately. I am hoping to get back on track this week with my creativity or at least technical consistency. But I’m sick again so who knows : )

Happy Monday.

So much to say. My weekend wrap-up.

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Well, my husband’s winter break really threw me for a loop. I feel like I am finally getting back on my feet. Organizing, adjusting, and getting caught up.

Pweezy has given up naps. I could feel sorry for myself (and for a couple fourteen hour days I did) but instead I am thankful that Cmoney still naps for an hour or two. I am lucky to have a toddler that doesn’t mind watching Little Bill or playing on the iPad for an hour or two while his sister sleeps on my lap.

My mother’s helper is here today and I am using the time to pay bills, get caught up on email, and say hi to you guys. Hi!

I love Gwyneth Paltrow (ducks). I don’t know why. There is something endearing and amusing about her patrician pretentiousness. This article is going around and it is a great read if you are interested in starting a small business.

I have lost eight pounds (woot) and am addicted to smoothies. I dislike the word because it reminds me of the Fresh Beat Band and I have to start singing and dancing. I loathed wasting bananas and strawberries that would ripen before we could eat them. Now I save them in a freezer, throw them in the blender with some soy milk, and organic whey protein. Fabulous. I am trying this Strawberry & Cucumber smoothie recipe next.

My girl Joanna of BabyGatorsDen got a blog redesign by the super talented Sarah of OneStarryNight. I will be working with Sarah soon on a personal project and am really looking forward to it.

I am beyond excited to be working with BabyGizmo as one of their Mom Editors.

Oh, and my photography obsession.

I am taking ClickinMoms Photoshop 101 as a study along and loving it. Some of my work is going to be featured at a local GimmeCoffee and although I am surprised they said yes to me : ) I am ecstatic.

My girl from Chronicles of Pookah’s mom was chosen last week as one of the iheartfaces winners. This is a HUGE deal. She won third place and her picture is awesome. She got her first DSLR not to long after I did and since then we have been photography buddies on our blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and on ClickinMoms. I am so proud of her.

I enjoyed “Is Pinterest good or bad for Etsy?” by former frenemy and current friend Jennifer Borget of BabyMakingMama fame.

I purchased a 35mm lens for Christmas with gift cards given to me by my lovely and thoughtful family.

I like it a ton but am not in love with it yet. It is nice having the extra room to shoot but it is a f2.0 aperture and my 50mm is f1.4. The lighting in our dorm dungeon is minimal so I need a lens that handles big apertures well.

Lastly. I am working on a Project 366 and a Project 52. You can check them out on Flickr if you’re a fellow photography lover.

Nice talking to you : ) Oh, this giveaway ends tonight and is awesome. Enter!

If you have anything awesome you wrote, found, or captured. Leave it in the comments and I will hit you up this weekend.

Happy Friday.

A new and exciting way to get my fix.

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

I have tinkered with various methods of home iced coffee brewing. I’ve cold brewed my beloved Bustelo in mason jars and brewed iced coffee specific blends then cooled them in a pitcher in the refrigerator. My home brewing methods were merely desperate (sometimes pathetic) attempts at iced caffeine satisfaction to satiate me until I was able to get out of the house and race to the nearest (overpriced) coffeehouse.

I miss this.

Friday, December 9th, 2011

It is freezing out. I am still sick and alone with the kids. My husband’s last final exam is on Tuesday. Can’t wait.

Thankfully I am feeling slightly better so I think I will bundle up the kids and go for a short walk.

I can’t believe this picture is from a few weeks ago. There was a heat wave. 60 degrees.

I miss that.

Happy Friday.
