Update: We have a winner!

 

If you are the kind of parent who waltzes into A.C. Moore with purpose, happily bouncing from aisle to aisle picking up supplies to make a pine cone garland then this post is not for you. I am not that mom. I am a crafty fail.

Almost every week you can find me at Michael's or A.C. Moore picking up "craft supplies". It is all lies. What I usually do is spend between $25-$50 on things like googly eyes, pipe cleaners, felt, ribbon, and canvases. For what? What are we making? I have no idea! I just buy random stuff to keep the kids entertained when it is too cold to play outside.

Fail.

I was contacted to review the BabbaBox and happily agreed. I have to admit that due to my usual zombie like existence I totally forgot that it was on its way. One Saturday afternoon after forty-five bitterly cold minutes at the playground we decided to check the mail. The BabbaBox was there. Pweezy could not wait to get home and open the box. It couldn't have come at a better time.

I wanted to post this review sooner but the reason for the delay is that it took us WEEKS to get through the box. I wanted to take as many pictures as possible of the kids engaged in all the activities the box contained. You can get a decent idea from the pictures below but trust me there was much more.

The target age for the box is 3-6 years old but as you can tell from the pictures my 1 & 2 year olds were definitely interested in the activities. Each box has a theme. November's theme was "Gratitude". The concept was a little much for Pweezy but he knows what "Thank You" means so I explained to him that this month (does he know what a month is? he seems to be grasping concepts of time) is about saying thank you for all the wonderful things in our lives.

The box included 3 gratitude projects, a card with a Q code for accessing supplementary digital content, a disposable camera, and much more.

We downloaded the "Cookie Doodle" by Shoe the Goose iPad app, took pictures (they are supposed to be added to the gratitude journal but Pweezy definitely did not understand what that was), read a beautiful book called "Giving Thanks", made thank you cards we then mailed to family (they were pre stamped!), painted a serving tray, and made a personalized trivet/hot pad.

The founder, Jessica, even included a thank you note with some of her favorite tea and a personal tea infuser inside a pretty gift bag.

I am signing up for the BabbaBox service because I *know* it will save me time, money, and frustration. I am not creative or crafty enough to come up with low-cost crafts and entertainment for my kids on my own. I will look forward to receiving the box every month and will definitely not miss visiting the craft store to stock up on googly eyes and pom poms.

The boxes start at $29.99 a month. The retail value of everything in the box is in the $40-$50 range. Subtract the cost of gas and crafty impulse buys and that is a substantial savings.
