Milestone Madness: 19 Months & 5 Months

The kids are getting older (boo. tear. hiss.) and are doing something new and exciting, to me anyway, everyday. I love and hate watching them grow. I, like every other mother, would like them to be my little babies forever but it just is not happening. Pweezy is 19 months and Cmoney is five months old this month.

Here is what BabyCenter says they should be up to this month:

19 Month Milestones according to BabyCenter

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)

Uses a spoon and fork, Runs, Throws a ball underhand, Enjoys helping around the house

P is doing great. He eats with a spook and fork regularly. Sometimes he even uses an adult fork and spoon if his airhead mommy can't find his utensils : )

I have mentioned a million times that P has been obsessed with balls since he was born so nothing new there. Oh and of course he runs.

He loves helping out around the house. It's his favorite. Vacuuming seems to be one of the highlights of his day. Weirdo.

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)

Understands as many as 200 words, Recognizes when something is wrong (e.g., calling a dog a cat)

I tried counting the number of words P is able to speak one day and got really bored. I lost count around 50 so I am definitely not going to embark upon a new project and count all the words he understands. That would take forever. Lets just mark this one as a yes!

As for knowing when something is being called the right name or not I am not too sure. He knows the names of at least twenty animals. P knows what a chicken is and he knows what a pig is. He even knows the sound each respective animal makes. Yet he insists upon calling pigs: pickens. No idea why. Don't even get me started on trying to explain the difference between a parrot and a bird. Gives me heartburn just thinking about it.

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)

Washes and dries own hands with help, Points to picture or object when you call it by name, May know when she needs to pee

I have yet to allow P to wash and dry his hands on his own because I am afraid he will turn the hot water handle and burn himself. However he seems to know how to wash his hands but I am not sure how thoroughly. Not quite here yet.

We do use flashcards whenever P wants. He likes to throw them on the floor and then skate on them saying HOCKEY!HOCKEY!HOCKEY! If I name an animal he will retrieve the card for me. He is a retriever! It's just like having a really smart dog except he smells better (good!) and poops inside (bad!).

He was telling me when he had to poo and giving me a heads up prior to doing so but all of this stopped as soon as he noticed the shiny new Baby Bjorn potty in the bathroom. He is aware of when others are peeing (ahem) but hasn't mentioned having to go himself.

Sounds like P is doing a-okay

Mastered Skills (most kids can do)

Distinguishes between bold colors & Plays with his hands and feet

I have no idea as to whether C is able to distinguish between colors. She hasn't said anything : )

She does love playing with her hands and feet.

Emerging Skills (half of kids can do)

Recognizes own name, Turns toward new sounds, & Rolls over in both directions

Miss C is doing all of the above. Hmm milestones for little bitty babies aren't as exciting but I am still proud of her.

Advanced Skills (a few kids can do)

Sits momentarily without support, Mouths objects, Separation anxiety may begin

This very morning C sat up by herself for well over five minutes. She has been doing this trick for about two weeks now. She loves putting everything into her mouth especially my thumb.

About a week ago I left the room and C was frantically looking for me. She did not have a crying fit but seemed upset that I left which is great since P really couldn't care less what happened to me at that age. He was all about his father.

C is doing great too!

What are your babies up to? Any potty training tips for me?

Thanks for stopping by CrunchyVTMommy.

Hope you have a fabulous Monday : )
