Our Halloween

Thankfully the theme for the Nurture Photography Fall Photo Challenge was Purple/Halloween. I was afraid I wasn't going to have anything. We spent most of the week indoors braving Hurricane Sandy's nonstop rains. I didn't do much shooting but spent a lot more time with my husband than usual and that was fantastic. My Halloween photos are underwhelming but I'm okay with that. Wrangling two toddlers in the freezing rain and a DSLR is no simple feat. I'm happy I got at least a few cute shots to remember the day by.

Halloween party and parade at the kids' play group. Practicing (and failing) with my Speedlite. Oh and Preston takes his role as Optimus Prime very seriously. Obviously.

Another shot of Preston posting. Do me a huge favor and take note of how his pants fit. Cameron refused to wear a costume and walked around swiping candy all morning.

As we were leaving the house to go trick-or-treating I noticed that Preston was wearing the wrong costume. I ran inside and searched frantically but couldn't find the more appropriately sized costume (turns out he stashed it under the couch). Sigh. So he walked around student housing begging people for candy in a too small costume. It was pretty cute though.

Preston walked up to the doors and knocked all by himself. He even remembered to say trick-or-treat and thank you. I was so proud. This photo was taken seconds after I nearly lost my life by being trampled by a giant buck.

I was standing there minding my business talking to the kids about the next area we would head to and out of the corner of my eye I see a beige blur. This humongous deer flees from a nearby pine tree and nearly clips me!

As if that wasn't terrifying/embarrassing enough a parent with a camera was nearby and popped out and started snapping photos of the deer as I stood there mortified and thankful to be upright. The deer here are nuts!

My husband came home from school early and was able to join us. The kids were so excited. It was great. We spent about an hour trick-or-treating and then returned home when we were sick of the cold. The kids then handed out candy for an hour. Once we finished we ate some Vietnamese food and had pumpkin cream cheese bread for dessert.

It was a great Halloween.
