Sending Cheer to Our Military

My professional background is in the defense industry. My husband and I both worked for a military contractor before we moved to Ithaca. The majority of our coworkers were veterans and some of our coworkers were not too far removed from active duty. The sacrifices of our nation's military was never far from our minds. We knew who our products served and took our jobs very seriously.

My husband worked in a finance function but I procured guns. One of my major duties was managing the suppliers that manufactured the weapons I procured. Every once in a while our boss would forward us an email from a service member giving us a real life example of how our work in the office and overseeing of our manufacturers affected the military. I loved knowing that my work helped to protect our nation's military.

Obviously I no longer work outside of the home but that doesn't mean our service men and women are far from my mind. I am so excited to announce my participation in the Cheerios sendCheer Campaign.

Cheerios has teamed up with the USO to thank military families and encourage them for their commitment to our country. Specially marked boxes of Cheerios cereal will feature "Cheer" postcards, which can be cut out and mailed to military families. For each postcard received, Cheerios will donate $1 to the USO to help support programs for military families.  Cheerios has already donated $150,000 and will donate up to an additional $100,000 based upon the number of postcards received by November 30, 2012.

How awesome is that? It doesn't take the place of a care package but it sends a little smile to those that deserve it most and raises money for a terrific cause at the same time. Pretty much everyone buys Cheerio's anyway. Just make sure to buy the special "cheer" postcard box, cut out the card, write an encouraging message, place a stamp on the card, drop in mailbox, and you are done. I love this campaign.

You are invited to join us tonight at 9 p.m. for the Cheerios #sendCheer Twitter Party. Join and help support #military families. If you RSVP you are eligible to win one of five Walmart gift cards (2 $25 GCs, 2 $50 GC, and 1 $100 GC).

I hope to see you tonight and will be back with more about this fantastic campaign soon.
