The Home Depot Holiday Gifts & Giveaway

*We have a winner!*

We moved to Ithaca seven months ago. Wow. Time flies. My husband and I are constantly rearranging and organizing our little dorm apartment. There is not much space and it is important that we maximize every square inch. Since we are on a student budget we decided that gifts would be of the practical variety. Sounds boring but after months of wading through, discarding, and donating mountains of underused stuff I was happy to oblige.

The Home Depot isn't far from our home so we thought we should pop in to do some holiday shopping. Our family knows that we have limited resources and aren't expecting the usual big ticket gifts (we spoil our parents like crazy but they do the same for us and hey its only once a year) such as flat screen TVs and washer machines. We wanted to check out The Home Depot for family gift ideas that wouldn't break our budget.

We were immediately taken aback by the large holiday display. Pweezy wanted a train set and I wanted a grill. We had to stick to our practical guns and picked up a little Christmas tree. I looked at some wood stoves for my mom and saw some within a decent price range. My husband and I decided since we couldn't buy the stove on our budget that maybe one of The Home Depot's video gift cards would be a better idea. You can personalize them with a message for your loved on and they can redeem them online, in the store, or via iPhone app. I have a tendency to spoil my mother and already planned on a phone but a little gift card wouldn't hurt.

Every time a display caught our eye we stopped to consider possible gift ideas but then we realized something: we need stuff! Our vacuum is junk and so is our humidifier. We bought more gifts for ourselves! We picked up a new Dirt Devil vacuum, Sunbeam humidifier, and a little Christmas tree. We were psyched! PSYCHED! This dorm gets so dusty and nasty. The vacuum is so powerful that it knocks papers off my desk and the humidifier is so rad I no longer wake up with a chapped face from the insane heater that bumps all night in my face.

Merry Christmas to us.

If you've never considered The Home Depot as a resource for Christmas shopping you might be nuts. They have awesome deals, super helpful staff, and something for everyone from novice DIYer to professional crafty types.

Did you know that The Home Depot offers free kids’ workshops? I didn't. They are available the first Saturday of every month. In December the workshops focus on holiday projects such as making Snowflake Napkin Holders. My husband will definitely be hitting one up with Pweezy this month during his break.
